Mark Thompson
Mark Thompson graduated from Warwick University with an Honours Degree in chemistry. He has worked in the ceramic industry for the last 18 years. He is currently the Health, Safety & Environmental Officer at H & R Johnson Tiles Limited - the UK's largest manufacturer of ceramic wall tiles - based in Stoke-on-Trent.
During this time he has a substantial role in a number of projects including:
- The development, implementation and maintenance of an ISO 14001 Environment Management System within the company.
- The implementation of the Environment Protection Act within H & R Johnson, achieving compliance to agreed Environment Agency standards, at minimum capital cost.
- Implementing policy and procedures to enable the company to meet its targets under the Climate Change Levy and prepare for entry into the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.
- Making an application for a permit to operate the site under the Pollution Prevention & Control Regulations.
- Participation in the development of best practice guides and statutory guidance through involvement with the British Ceramic Confederation.
Mark is a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Member of the Institute of Environment Management and Assessment, and a Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health.
