Louisa Hatton
Environment Officer
Originally from Yorkshire, Louisa graduated in Geology and Geography, and followed this with a Masters in Waste Management. Early on she decided that designing holes in the ground in which to throw waste was not for her! It would be a far better idea to look at preventing the waste being created in the first place. She worked at Carl Bro Group as an engineer before taking a position in one of the first companies to be created following a Waste Minimisation project in 1994. She worked at the Humber Resource Efficiency Centre as an Environmental Advisor (running waste minimisation courses, advising on energy efficiency, waste management and waste minimisation as well as auditing companies) for three years before taking a similar role at the University of Lincoln.
In 2002 the lure of the Environment Agency proved too much and Louisa began working at their Lichfield office in the Midlands region. As well as working on a number of local waste minimisation groups, Louisa has also carried out work with Defra on national issues, and is the regional expert on Producer Responsibility.
