Driving for Better Business – Staffordshire Group
“It is vitally important that employers manage those who drive on company business well. They need good guidance and sensible rules to follow. Simply assuming that being in possession of a driving licence is a guarantee of ability, is not enough", explains Adrian Walsh, RoadSafe Director. The Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP), in partnership with Driving for Better Business and SBEN, has launched a county-wide network of businesses which put managing road risk high on their agendas. Local meetings to share Best Practice will be arranged every few months, under the heading of Driving for Better Business in Staffordshire. The first meeting was held last November (at Michelin Tyre plc) for employers who manage those employees who conduct work related journeys. Delegates indicated that they would very much like to keep in touch, not only with each other, but with other representatives from businesses which aspire to develop and improve their driving for work policies. A second meeting was held in March, at JCB, Rocester. Following this very successful workshop, approximately 30 local businesses have now agreed to work together to improve their internal programmes for managing those who drive for work. Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership will keep these businesses updated with their campaigns and assist with any concerns they may have in relation to driver training, writing of bespoke policies and general road safety matters. Invites will be sent out soon for the next workshop, which is to be held on Thursday 5th July, at Burton and South Derbyshire College. Topics to be discussed will include: Adrian Walsh from Roadsafe will be facilitating the meeting, supported by Business Champions who are experienced in these two topics.
