Cutting edge materials recovery! The recovery process at the Four Ashes MRF is automated wherever possible employing the latest technology to efficiently recover materials of the highest quality, ready to be passed on to reprocessors.
One of the most technologically advanced facilities in the area, it has been designed to handle up to 40,000 tonnes of co-mingled steel and aluminium cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles and jars every year. Co-mingled collections simplify recycling for residents and improve participation rates. In addition, Four Ashes MRF can accept up to 9,000 tonnes of paper and cardboard for baling and onward transport
What a fascinating visit this was! Our thanks to Hilary Hampton (Communications and Education Manager) and Nigel Price (Manager, MRF), who made us feel very welcome.... just a shame about the very wet weather!
One of the delegates comments summed up the visit perfectly:
"Veolia staff were enthusiastic, passionate and keen to answer questions!"
Other comments included:
"I found this extremely useful and provided an insight into waste management and the issues that are faced".
"The hosts were very knowledgeable and keen to make our visit interesting".
"Very informative".
"Useful networking opportunities".
More information on the MRF is to follow in the next edition of SBEN News (September 2011).
