What an amazing visit this was - even the weather was perfect!

Our thanks to SBEN Member, Sue Prince OBE, who was eager to share her experiences of the Pilot Light Project, at Beechenhill Farm:

"This is a demonstration project to show how a small organic farm has started to adapt for resource efficiency and climate change within the
protected landscape.  We haven’t done it all and are certainly not perfect; we are still discovering and learning!   Still to come: mini bio-digester and solar PVs.  You may be interested in doing similar things - you can learn from our mistakes!

We have adopted the principles of the carbon management hierarchy and implemented a number of energy elimination, reduction and replacement measures on the farm."

The feedback was excellent, with an overall satisfaction rate of 95%.  Comments included:

  • "A fantastic in-depth 'personable' event.  Really easy to ask questions & information given in a way which was easy to understand"
  • "Well organised, informative day"
  • "Very good visit which demonstrated sustainable technology on a small scale, which we all should aspire to. Refreshingly enthusiastic family, who are making a real impact".
  • "Very interesting visit, plus interactivity with the other participants".
  • "Fabulous experience - something for everyone".
  • "Excellent information sheets - much appreciated"
  • "Good because the visit was relevant to smaller businesses"

We felt so relaxed and 'at one' with nature, that we really didn't want to come back to work!
